Preserve our national heritage: Save the original Star Wars

by RickMacMerc (Elsewhere on the internet)

Personally, I still have two copies of the original 3 Star Wars flicks on VHS and one copy of each preserved on LaserDisc. I'm also pretty sure I'm not the only one. So the truth will be known--Greedo shot first. But just in case, a bunch of Star Wars fans, with more geek juice than I, have set up a petition to preserve the original trilogy in its original form without all of CGI additions it has picked up over the decades since its original release. Sign it if you feel convicted to do so. You must do what you feel is right, of course.

Where's the petition to ensure that the Star Wars Holiday Special never resurfaces?

El Mariachi sequel--straight to video...game

by RickMacMerc (Entertainment News)

In a recent interview with IGN entitled Rodriguez Talks Grind House the director dropped hints that the El Mariachi franchise my in fact live on beyond Once Upon A Time in Mexico, but in the form of a video game for PSP. Says Rodriquez...

I thought about doing a PSP game that would follow [Johnny Depp's character]. That would be cool, a Once Upon a Time in Mexico video game for the PSP - The Man With No Eyes. He would be a blind gunfighter.

Rodriguez is known for having dozens of projects on the go and this may just be on his "someday, maybe" list.

Let's hope El comes back in a real movie sometime soon.

Steal This Disc: A different kind of film piracy message

by RickMacMerc (Elsewhere on the internet)

Steal This Disc is a short film by Nat Segaloff starring Callard Harris (casting directors read "Matt Damon type") that starts off as a public service announcement by a fictitious independent filmmaker named Brett Chase against the evils of movie piracy but ends up being a jab at the film industry and its treatment of the small time filmmaker.

Definitely worth a watch. But remember, piracy is still illegal and don't call us from jail if you get caught.
